Religious Modern Long Verses

God only takes the best

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you
And whispered, Come to me

With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay

A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best

God’s Garden

God looked around His garden
And found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best

He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb

So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered Peace be Thine
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home

Eternal Light

Those we love must someday pass
Beyond our present sight
Must leave us and the world we know
Without their radiant light

But we know that like a candle
Their lovely light will surely shine
To brighten up another place
More perfect, more divine

And in the realm of Heaven
Where they shine so warm and bright
Our loved ones live forevermore
In God’s eternal light

Memories

A bouquet of beautiful memories
Sprayed with a million tears
Wishing God could have spared you
If just for a few more years

It does not take a special day
For us to think of you
Each Mass we hear, each prayer we say
Is offered up for you

We cannot bring the old days back
When we were all together
But our love for you will never die
And memories live forever

The chain

We didn’t know that morning
That God was to call your name
In life we loved you dearly
In death we do the same

It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home

You left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide
And though we cannot see you
We feel you at our side

Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again

Holding hands

When God held out his precious hands
To take you from your pain
You stretched your
Weary hand right back
As he softly called your name

Come home with me, he quietly said
Your pain will leave you soon.
Just close your eyes and take my hand
We’ll quietly leave the room

The journey

Life is but a stopping place
A pause in what’s to be
A resting place along the road
To sweet eternity

Our destination is a place
Far greater than we know
For some the journey’s quicker
For some the journey’s slow

And when the journey finally ends
We’ll claim a great reward
And find an everlasting peace
Together with the Lord

Home

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God can tell us why

It broke my heart to lose you
But you didn’t go alone
For part of me went with you
The day God called you home

Peace

In tears we saw you sinking
and watched you pass away
Our hearts were almost broken
We wanted you to stay

But when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful, free from pain
How could we wish you back with us
To suffer that again

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God took you home

Brighter day

There is no night without a dawning
No winter without a spring
And beyond death’s dark horizon
Our hearts once more will sing

For those who leave us for a while
Have only gone away
Out of a restless careworn world
Into a brighter day

The Ship

I am standing on the seashore. Suddenly
a ship at my side spreads her white sails
to the morning breeze and starts out for
the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty
and strength, and I stand and watch
her until her sail and the Sky mingle
with each other. Then someone at my
side says: “There! She’s gone!”
Gone where?

Gone just from my sight, that is all. She
is just as large in mast and hull as she
was when she left my side. Her dimin-
ished size is in me, not in her, and just
at that moment when someone at my
side says: “There! She’s gone!” there are
other voices gladly shouting, “There! She
comes!”. And that is dying.

The Rose

A rose once grew
Where all could see
Sheltered beside a garden wall
And as the days passed swiftly by
It spread its branches, straight and tall

One day, a beam of light shone through
A crevice that had opened wide
The rose bent gently toward its warmth
Then passed beyond to the other side

Now you who deeply feel its loss
Be comforted, the rose blooms there
Its beauty even greater now
Nurtured by God’s loving care

Footprints

One day a man had a dream. He
was walking along the beach with the
Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from
his life. Each scene, he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand; one belonging
him and the other to the Lord.
He noticed that many times along the path
of his life there was only one set of foot-
prints. He also noticed that it happened at
the very lowest and saddest times in his
life. He asked, “Lord you said that once
I decided to follow you, you’d walk
with me all the way. But I have noticed
that during the most troublesome times
in my life there is only one set of footprints”
The Lord replied, “My precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”

Footprints short

“Lord you said that once
I decided to follow you, you’d walk
with me all the way. But I have noticed
that during the most troublesome times
in my life there is only one set of footprints”
The Lord replied, “My precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”

The Lane

Along the road of suffering
You found a little lane
That took you up to Heaven
And ended all your pain

You may be out of sight
A crevice that had opened wide
But you’re always in our prayers
And forever in our hearts

If tears could build a stairwell

If tears could build a stairwell
And memories were a lane
I would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say good-bye
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knows why

My heart still aches in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it means to lose you
No one will ever know

First Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees
around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven’s stars
Reflecting on the snow
The sight is so spectacular
Please wipe away the tear
For I am spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year
I hear the many Christmas songs
That people hold so dear
But the sounds of music can’t compare
With the Christmas choir up here

I have no words to tell you
The joy their voices bring
For it is beyond description
To hear the angels sing
I know how much you miss me
I see the pain inside your heart
But I am not so far away
We really aren’t apart
So be happy for me, dear ones
You know I hold you dear
And be glad I’m spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year

Goodnight, God Bless

Without your kind and gentle smile
And sweet familiar face
A treasured life is missing
And the world’s a sadder place

You lived your life so graciously
You always did your best
And now you’re with the angels
And it’s time for you to rest

As peace surrounds you everywhere
In heavenly skies above
Here on earth you’re deeply missed
And thought about with love

We see the stars at night time
Shining bright and clear
And as we say good night, God bless
We know that you are near

Seasons

Life is like the seasons
Each one it’s changes bring
A fertile seed takes root and grows
Thus youth is like the Spring

Maturity comes in Summer
As we work and play and sing
In the Autumn we gather harvest
From the deeds we sowed, and then

Alas too soon it’s Winter
And our eyes have grown quite dim
Have faith no need to worry
‘Tis not the end of everything
For our souls will be returned again
To heaven, where God is king
